Elementary

It’s a privilege to serve as the elementary principal of a school committed to providing all students with a rich learning environment. It’s also a pleasure to welcome you to the beautiful and family friendly Northeast of Scotland. ISA is a happy school where fun and laughter are an everyday occurrence. It’s easy to be a new student at ISA as our school community is very welcoming. Most of our international families stay in Aberdeen for about three years. The learning environment at ISA stimulates intellectual curiosity, develops positive personal qualities and physical and emotional well being, and emphasises high expectations for student achievement and behaviour. Opportunities for expressions of cultural diversity and an appreciation for the uniqueness of each student are encouraged and included in the educational curriculum. Differentiated instruction enables students to perform to the best of their individual ability. Talented staff utilise a team teaching approach to classroom instruction. They follow a rigorous curriculum, emphasising the integration of reading, language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science with the creative arts, physical education, and technology. Strong instructional practices are valued and assessment and accountability drive educational decision-making.

The quest for high academic achievement is pursued through active learning, hard work and lots of TLC. We want each student to be a well-rounded child and not afraid to tackle any academic and social obstacles they might encounter.

As a school we put a high priority on the modern languages and offer specialised instruction in French, Spanish and English from the age of three.

We also believe strongly in a close home and school relationship. Numerous opportunities are presented throughout the year for you to come along to school and participate in your child’s education. All classrooms operate an open door policy and teachers are pro-active in keeping a regular liaison with parents.

Also, my door is always open for parents to come and see me to discuss any concerns or problems.

I hope your family’s association with The International School of Aberdeen will be enjoyable and rewarding.

Sincerely yours,

Don Newbury
Elementary Principal
