The ISA library is located at the very heart of our campus, and you’ll see it in front of you as you arrive at reception. We have an award-winning library – we were the first school in Scotland to receive the SLS-UK School Library Gold Award! We provide a welcoming service to all students, staff and parents at ISA. To see what books and other resources we have available, please check our:
We are committed to celebrating diversity in our library collection, and are a signatory of the “Everybody In” charter http://www.everybodyin.co.uk for promoting inclusion in children’s books.
Our library is spread out over three levels. The lowest level of the library contains books for our youngest readers, including boardbooks for our preschoolers. Picture books are located on the shelves surrounding the story stairs. They are organised around various themes, such as Living & Growing, Celebrations and Fairy Tales. There are plenty of comfortable spaces for sharing stories together.
Our second level is where you will find the checkout desk – there will always be someone here ready to help you. This level has our junior fiction and junior non-fiction, aimed at older Elementary children, as well as our language collections. We have a large collection of Dutch language books, a range of books in French and Spanish, and a collection in books in over 20 of the other home languages spoken in our school, including Arabic, Danish and Russian. As well as our books, you will also find a range of audio CDs and DVDs which can be borrowed by staff and parents, and catalogue computers to help you search for a particular title or author.
The Upper School library space is upstairs, and provides quiet individual study space, as well as a wide range of fiction, non-fiction, and IB-level magazines. There are five computers available for students to work on, as well as two catalogue computers for locating books. If IB students need a wider range of academic books, we can arrange for them to access the local university libraries as well.
As well as the range of physical resources in the library, we also subscribe to a wide range of online resources – more information and login details for these can be found in students’ Google Classroom (Grades 5-12). Wifi is available throughout the library; to access your password please contact IT staff. We look forward to having you visit our library soon.
